While a beautiful lake at the summit of White Pass, Leech Lake may be better known as a frozen lake making up the central feature of the snowshoe and cross country route at the White Pass Nordic Center. Snow covered and pristine, this winter recreation paradise gives way to summer recreation in May or June. THen it becomes a camping and fishing destination, serving hikers from the Pacific Crest Trail. The PCT crosses White Pass (US HWY 12) nearby. Services such as food, postal drop and civilization are only steps away. The lake itself is situated behind the White Pass Village Inn and is not visible from the Byway.
