Located on the dryer side of the Cascade Mountains, Naches is the gateway to the Yakima Valley’s agricultural attractions and wineries. Nearby Oak Creek Wildlife Area offers close encounters with area elk herds each winter. Naches has a major agriculture industry, featuring many breweries and wineries as well as a multitude of nearby outdoor recreational activities along the White Pass Scenic Byway and the Chinook Scenic Byway at the foot of the Cascade Mountain Range.
Naches has a small historic downtown and larger highway-related commercial strip along U.S. Highway 12. Roadside retail in Naches includes a large quantity of fruit, including apples, pears, cherries and peaches grown on the rolling hills and river valley surrounding the town. Naches has a few restaurants and a hotel for lodging. The ranger station for the Naches Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest provides visitor information.
