Sunrise

Sunrise is the highest-elevation developed area in Mount Rainier National Park, perched on the mountain’s northeast side with sweeping views of Rainier, Emmons Glacier, and the Cascades. It’s known for alpine scenery, vibrant summer wildflowers, and access to some of the park’s most dramatic ridge and summit-view hikes.

During the summer season, Sunrise serves as a hub for exploring the park’s northeast side, with a visitor center, day lodge, picnic areas, and trail access all within easy reach. Whether stopping for panoramic views or setting out on a backcountry adventure, Sunrise offers an unforgettable alpine experience.

Sunrise Visitor Center – The highest visitor center in the park at about 6,400 ft, with exhibits, ranger info, and panoramic views of Mount Rainier and surrounding peaks. 

Sunrise Point Overlook – Scenic viewpoints along the road offering expansive vistas of the White River Valley and Cascade Range. 

Sunrise Day Lodge – The historic Sunrise Day Lodge offers food, snacks, gifts, and breathtaking views. Originally built in 1931, the rustic lodge serves as a popular stop for hikers and visitors.

White River Campground and White River Picnic Area Located 5.2 miles from the White River Entrance and 12 miles from the Sunrise Visitor Center.

As you drive from White River to Sunrise, learn how volcanoes and glaciers have shaped the mountain over thousands of years, then continue on a short walk at Sunrise to see glacial features up close. Download the tour before arriving, as cell service is limited in the area.
